Our (not so) little one turned three at the beginning of the month, and we threw a little bash at her most favorite place on the planet, Jane's Carousel. 

There's no better time or place than autumn in Brooklyn, and capturing a crew who's ready and willing to get silly, leaf-covered, and maybe even a little sweaty makes this peak family session season all the more enjoyable. 

When I photographed the Babyccino Kids' Shop-Up event earlier this year, I realized that a good portion of my images featured this spunky little darling with a magnetic force—I had no idea who she was, but I did know that my camera loved her, and she immediately made me think of my own daughter in more ways than one. 

I'm going to try my darndest to be better about bringing my fancy camera out and about on family occasions. Tonight was my first step in my quest to do so—happy Halloween to you and yours!

I recently shot a few back-to-back mini sessions with some of my all-time favorite clients, and while I quite literally ran from Brooklyn backdrop to backdrop to backdrop and left the last one with sweat on my brow as if I had run a 10K, I have to say that the case can be made for the age-old quote, "Everything's better in miniature."

I first met Ana last fall as a client—we took family photos in Brooklyn shortly after they moved to NYC, and to make a short story short, we became fast friends and the last year has felt like a decade (in the best way possible).

I have to say, newborn sessions with older siblings will always have my heart. There's nothing more magical than new life, but the additional variable of a toddler experiencing his or her new role as a big brother or sister certainly kicks up the level of emotion several more notches. 

Photographing at Dia:Beacon ranks as one of my top five favorite things in life, so when fellow family photographer Mikki Skinner reached out to schedule a session and brainstorm Hudson Valley location ideas, my immediate response was to shoot in this 300,000 square foot playground of natural light and minimal art. 

Bakeri has often been touted as Brooklyn's best European-style eatery, and with two outposts—one in Williamsburg, one in Greenpoint—each with their own unique character, visitors can now enjoy twice the sweet and savory offerings amid the eclectic interiors that are arguably some of the most Instagrammed spots in the borough.

While I always love scouting new locations and discovering new backdrops for sessions, there's really something to be said for frolicking as a family where you're most comfortable—at home, within the confines of your own familiar space. 

How do you sum up some of your closest friends in one opening paragraph of a family session blog post?

When it comes to sweet and mellow newborns, baby Raya takes the cake! Having just entered this chaotic world merely days ago, she possessed a sense of calm that was almost otherworldly—and needless to say my baby fever is that much more pronounced after spending the morning photographing her and her darling family.

This week I had the opportunity to capture a special event for an incredible cause hosted by the radiant LaTonya Yvette at Concrete + Water in Williamsburg. LaTonya styled, orchestrated, and executed a FEED Supper, which in essence was an intimate gathering of path-breaking women in support of the fight against hunger. 

What do you get when you combine the crème de la crème of kid-centric shop owners and small businesses with live music, family-friendly activities, and scrumptious treats galore—all created and executed by the beauty, brains, and brilliance that is Babyccino Kids and Pop Productions?

After a full spring filled with newness (of the tiny human variety), my calendar shifted to ceremonies and celebrations (of the marital variety) for a good portion of the summer, but sweet George arrived a few short weeks ago and gave me that baby fix I had been craving! 

When planning this Lower East Side family session with one of the most stylish and magnetic mamas I’ve ever met, she noted in an email that she wanted the session to be somewhat edgy with a splash of quintessential New York City grit. 

When the inspiring ladies behind heymama asked me to do a mother/daughter session, you can bet I jumped at the chance to work with them and capture their gorgeous spirits (and their stunning littles)!
