If a cancer diagnosis and over 60 days in the hospital (and counting) has taught me anything, it is to treasure each day of our fleeting existence and—as cliche as it sounds—live every minute with intention and unmitigated gratitude. This framed Here and Now print (shot on Kodak Portra 400 film during a leisurely walk along the Pacific while I was recovering between treatments), encompasses these sentiments and, I hope, will serve as a constant reminder to the viewer(s) to remain fully present and wholly appreciative because there is beauty to be discovered around even the most mundane of corners, and nothing in this life is guaranteed.

BACKSTORY

In April of 2021 I was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia, and two months later my dear friend and gifted photographer Jesse Marble joined the angels after a long and arduous battle with lymphoma.

Needless to say, blood cancer is far too close to home and becoming far too common. While I’m still in treatment for my leukemia and temporarily unable to work as a photographer, I wanted to continue to share my work while also giving back to those that have devoted their livelihoods to finding a cure for these horrific diseases. As such, I will be donating half of all proceeds to two organizations that are near and dear to me: 25% of proceeds from the sale of this framed print will go directly to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and 25% will be donated to Be the Match.
